Movie: A Violent Prosecutor (2016)

Main Casts:

Hwang Jung Min as Byun Jae Wook
Kang Dong Won as Chi Won
Lee Sung Min as Assistant Prosecutor General Jong Gil
Park Sung Woong as Min Woo

Plot:
Byun Jae Wook is famous as a tough prosecutor who doesn't mind doing a little bit violent towards the criminals to get the truth out of their mouths. One day, his prime suspect found dead in the interrogation room. The police department arrested him because he's the last one that stayed in that room with the suspect and he did some little rough session toward the suspect. Byun Jae Wook sentenced to 15 years of prison life for murdering the suspect. He finally realized that his arrest was just part of the circus that played by his superior, Jong Gil, who's trying to run for president. He realized that he's being used and wrongly accused.

Five years later, he meets Chi Won in prison. Chi Won is a super handsome swindler who likes to play coy to get what he wants. Turns out Chi Won somehow also involved in the circus that Lee Sung Min played though not directly. Knowing that he can get Chi Won to help him with his case, Jae Wook gets close to him and even helps Chi Won to get out early from prison. In return, he asks Chi Won to help his counterattack plan for Jong Gil outside of prison.

Can they make it?

Comment:
I have to say that Kang Dong Won looks super handsome here, though he's a little bit skinnier than before. But still, he looks damn good. And I love his character, Chi Won. Such a lovable yet annoying character he is. Supper witty and such a smooth talker. He knows how to use his good look to get what he wants and Dong Won plays it really well. I can say that Dong Won is the scene-stealer here, maybe because of his character. Every move is so in-your-face so you won't blink away from him. Oh, btw, oppa looks so young here. He reminds me of Jung Joon Young. And oh my, when he disguises as a lawyer wearing that suit and glasses, looks like he can rule the world (read: my world). Hahaha.

No need to doubt Hwang Jung Min's acting. He's indeed at the top. But, for me, it's kinda bad to see him in this movie. He plays the main character but his portion isn't enough to make me full of awe. It's more like a subtle character rather than an in-your-face character. His present is even more less than Lee Sung Min and Park Sung Woong in this movie. Somehow the characters played by Sung Min and Sung Woong are way more having an impact on the audience (read: me). I dunno what's the intention of the writer to make him in this situation.

I love the detailed changes towards Jung Min's character before he's in jail and after he's in jail. You can see the changes immediately especially to his face. When he's still a prosecutor, he looks so young and fresh. But once he transferred to the prison, he looks pale and dreadful. Now, that's good. Not like Dong Won's character that still looks the same outside and inside of prison. I forgive that though since Dong Won looks handsome. Hahaha.

Actually the plot is pretty predictable and pretty standard but I think the one that makes this movie interesting to watch is definitely the characters involved. And also the fact that this not a super serious crime movie so it's easier to watch and enjoy. Luckily the writer knows how to put a good amount of comedy. If not, it can be a disaster and become a trash movie. The actors also play another part to be a good point to watch this. They act really well for the characters.

My favorite scenes are when Kang Dong Won's dancing and when he disguised as a lawyer. And also when Hwang Jung Min got stabbed. I didn't expect that he's gonna be stabbed. I predict something will happen during that moment when he stands alone against the wall, but I thought the prison guard or the warden that will do something to him. But instead, his colleague does that.

Overall this is a nice movie to watch. I can see why it's grossing a lot, becomes box office, and having a good review. Enough proportion of comedy and great acting from great actors and also nicely built characters are clearly the main attractiveness to this movie.
